The knowledge obtained through this service enhances our ability to work with officials on behalf of our clients. Arbitration & MediationAlpert, Barr & Grant is a strong proponent of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a viable means to resolve conflict. We are often asked to arbitrate and mediate cases involving construction, business, real estate and complex family law disputes. Principal Lee Kanon Alpert was the first West Coast mediator for the American Arbitration Association and helped establish its West Coast Mediation Center. We bring an impartial perspective to every arbitration and mediation hearing so both sides receive a fair airing of their concerns. During meditations, our goal is to find common ground between the parties and to work out a mutually acceptable solution. Bankruptcy/Creditors' RightsOur attorneys understand the urgent nature of creditors' rights during bankruptcy. We are experienced in all aspects of bankruptcy law and appear regularly on behalf of our creditor clients in Bankruptcy Court. We make judicious use of the members of our paralegal staff who effectively complete many bankruptcy procedures, which in turn, reduces costs to clients. Business/Corporate/Real Estate TransactionsOur attorneys represent clients in all facets of business/corporate/real estate law including incorporations, leases, contracts, limited partnerships and sophisticated real estate transactions. We properly and thoroughly complete these transactions in a timely manner. An accurately prepared transaction can frequently prevent litigation if a dispute later arises. Cable Franchising, Negotiations, Consulting & Strategic PlanningLee Kanon Alpert has more than 25 years experience assisting cable operators with franchise and compliance issues and with refranchising negotiations. He has served as offsite general legal counsel, strategist, consultant and lead refranchising negotiator for Time Warner Cable and its predecessors and has renegotiated the Los Angeles refranchising of Time Warner’s existing franchise since the inception of cable in Los Angeles in the early 1980s. Civil, Business & Real Property Transactions and LitigationOur trial attorneys are experienced and well-respected litigators, representing plaintiffs and defendants in jury and non-jury trials. Our firm has successfully serviced clients in disputes involving banking, general business, real estate, breach of contract, foreclosures, broker's commission, bankruptcy, commercial and residential evictions, construction, collection, injunctive relief and in business tort matters. We aggressively pursue litigation when it is in the best interest of our client, fully employing all legal means including (when appropriate) obtaining attachments, receiverships and injunctions. We support arbitration and mediation as alternative forms of dispute resolution and will suggest their use whenever we believe they would be beneficial to clients. Landlord-Tenant LawOur attorneys are experienced in all phases of landlord-tenant law and take part in lease negotiations and lease preparation. We represent landlords, receivers and financial institutions in unlawful detainers, and as creditors in bankruptcy proceedings. Manufactured Housing/Mobile Home LawOur attorneys are uniquely expert in manufactured housing and mobile home law including foreclosures, bankruptcy protection, evictions, mobile home park disputes, governmental compliance issues and loan documentation. We assist in streamlining foreclosure procedures to minimize client legal fees when possible. When needed, we complete foreclosures, pursue unlawful detainer judgments and obtain relief from automatic bankruptcy stay provisions. Our paralegal staff completes many of the necessary procedures when appropriate to contain costs for clients. Offsite General CounselNot all businesses need an in-house legal department, but from time to time, all businesses require the legal expertise and guidance that skilled corporate and business counsel affords. Many businesses often wait until an issue develops into a legal problem before they contact an attorney for guidance. With an offsite general counsel in place, potential problems can be spotted and addressed before they have a chance to develop into a costly legal issue. Since offsite general counsel is familiar with how a client's business operates everything from preparing contracts to protecting trade secrets can benefit from this legal expertise. Alpert, Barr & Grant attorneys offer offsite general counsel services to businesses of all sizes. These services include:
Real Estate Foreclosure Law & Related MattersOur attorneys specialize in real and personal property foreclosure issues in California. We advise lenders and others on foreclosure related matters and often work with foreclosure trustees. We represent parties, including lenders, in foreclosure litigation and foreclosure-related issues in bankruptcy court.
