About Us - Community Service

Alpert, Barr & Grant and its principals have been recognized by legal, business and civic organizations for their ongoing commitment to the betterment of the legal profession and of the quality of life in their community.

In 2000, the firm received the Blue Chip Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Mass Mutual Financial Group. The award identifies small businesses throughout the country, which through their ingenuity and perseverance, conquered significant obstacles to achieve success. In 1998, the firm received the Joseph Staller Memorial Award for Excellence in Service by the Woodland Hills Chamber of Commerce. This annual award is given to a San Fernando Valley business that has shown an ongoing commitment to the community. The firm and its attorneys donate more than 3,000 volunteer hours to community causes each year. With all principals and most of the firm's employees living in the San Fernando Valley, they believe it is their responsibility to help the San Fernando Valley and the City of Los Angeles become the best communities they can be.

Attorneys at the firm have received individual recognition for their volunteer work. Lee Kanon Alpert was selected in 2003 by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal as the Health Care Business Volunteer of the Year. In 2002, principal Mr. Alpert and his family were honored for their lifelong community volunteer work with the Circle of Life Award from the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging. In March 2000, Mr. Alpert was awarded the prestigious 41st Annual Fernando Award, an honor provided to one individual each year recognizing a lifetime of achievements in volunteerism that have improved the quality of life in the San Fernando Valley. In 1998, Mr. Alpert received the Tree of Life Award from the Jewish National Fund for his years of involvement in the community and in 1990, he received the Stanley M. Lintz Award from the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. The Lintz Award, the bar's highest award, is given in recognition of volunteer work to the community and the bar over many years.

In 2002, principal Gary Barr received the Jack E. Wells Memorial Award from the California Manufactured Housing Institute (CMHI). The award is given annually to an individual for outstanding leadership and service to the manufactured housing industry and is CMHI's highest honor. In 1998, Barr was the recipient of the Stanley M. Lintz Award from the San Fernando Valley Bar Association.

Adam D.H. Grant sits on the board of the San Fernando Valley Legal Aid Foundation. He is also the president of the board of directors of the Shalom Institute, Camp and Conference Center. He served as a panel arbitrator and mediator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association and was past vice president and chair on the board of directors of the Legal Committee of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Los Angeles.

Three firm members have served as president of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association--Mr. Alpert in the '80s, Mr. Barr in the '90s and Mark Blackman in the '00s. Alpert, Barr & Grant is the only firm that has had three attorneys serve as bar president while a member of the same law firm.
